Shoot Out Drama in England Hockey National 50+ Final
An RHC Vintage side took to the motorway at the weekend to sample the delights of Cheshire with the England Hockey over 50s Final against Catnerbury HC at Bowden Hockey Club.
Having won this competition last season and having beaten Indian Gym in the semi-final hopes were high that the silverware would be brought back by Greg and his team of all stars.
Sadly however normal time couldn't separate Richmond and Canterbury and it was down to the gunslingers in a penalty stroke shoot out. The umpires deemed it necessary to award a penalty goal and a retaken stroke and Canterbury clinically took the opportunity to finish the match off meaning our chaps came out 2nd best in a 7-8 loss and were left with a long and frustrating journey home.
This side can rightly be proud of its cup endeavours in recent years and will no doubt look to take on the national competition again next season. They will also get the opportunity to bounce back next weekend when they travel to Southgate HC to take on Spencer in the London League over 50's final.
