It’s never easy playing away, certainly not at Guildford either. The 3’s also have a reputation of always losing the away game before any hockey social so the outcome did not look promising from the start.
From the start of the match it was tense and very close and both sides having good spells on the ball. With the hot sun beating down on us, we tried to let the ball do most of the work and it took a desperate lunge from the keeper to take out striker Stiffler (Adam Harvey) before a penalty flick was given offering the away team a well needed advantage. After retrieving his lost shoe in the tackle, Lightos (Tom James) then stepped up to put the spot and cleverly placed the ball in the middle of the goal watching the keeper dive the wrong way.
The second half was a much more solid performance, I’m sure the 3’s have not played so well together so early on in the season. The passing from the back to midfield was flawless and the linking up with the quick one two’s was done in style and with confidence. Guilford did not stand a chance and after countless chances and shots we finally secured the win with a second goal from goal-hanger Lightos, created from some great pressure, turning over the ball and good passing.
Overall, it was a deserved victory and the sign of things to come from the 3’s. Needless to say the win was well celebrated at the social with some staying out until gone 6 the following morning.
Well Done Lads, keep it up
