Huge congratulations to Soma, Rob, Josh and the Mens 1st XI as they beat City of Peterborough 4-1 on a bitterly cold Sunday afternoon at the Hogg last weekend to retain our status as a National League Club.
The journey this side has been on in the past 5-10 seasons is quite remarkable and we think that next season will be the first time in 7 years that the side will be playing in the same league for a consecutive season. After several relegations down to Hamps/Surrey Regional division a sequence of 3 promotions took us to the National League this season so to retain this place for a 2nd year is perhaps their greatest achievment to date.
Many thanks to Wendy and The Pro Shop team for their support over the season and to TK Hockey (kit suppliers), to Scott Mitchell and Scott Hancock at Move Clinics for their conditioning and physio support and guidance and also to Jon Carson and the Cellar Vie wine team for kindly providing the Man of the Match wine throughout the season.
It certainly makes for an interesting summer ahead as we start planning for next season where we will also be represented in the London Premier League by our Mens 2nd XI who achieved promotion this season under coach Oli Hyatt and skipper Simon Goodbody. A fantastic season will seem them playing against many National Premier League 2nd XI’s next season and the combination of our 1’s and 2’s playing in these respective leagues really is very exciting. Oli Hyatt will finally and sadly be moving away as his new house nears completion. As a club we owe a huge debt to Oli who has coached, played, supported and been involved to a huge extent over the past years. Not sure what we will do without him – if anyone is progressing the development of a clone machine please let us know. Oli certainly leaves us in a very strong position and it is a credit to the Elite Mens Group that both teams will be playing at these high levels next season.
