Umpires !

10 August 2014

Want to brush up on the rules of hockey and test yourself? See the link below to the England Hockey website which sets out the rules broken down by section and has an online multiple choice test.

The rules are for club level (i.e. not National League and International rules).
I am also looking for England Hockey to organise an official Level 1 umpiring course to be held at the club (the ones currently available to join independently are quite long distances from RHC (er, Cumbria, for example!). We need to apply for one to be setup. It will probably be a Sunday and we need pitch time for the ‘practical’ elements of the course. The course is more about ‘how to umpire’ rather than learning the rules. All course participants are required to take the online test before the course date.
Alternatively there is an “Introduction to Umpiring” course for people with very little or no umpiring experience. This does not lead to a Level 1 qualification but I’m sure would be useful for those who want to get started. We might organise both.
There is a £50 charge from England Hockey for the L1 course and £25 for the Introduction course but we may be able to get a discount with numbers and I am sure RHC will subsidise for those that umpire for the club from time to time 🙂
Anyone interested – please drop me an email Umpireman Jonny  or text (07768 345693) so I can get an idea of numbers. Tell me which course you would like to do.
