U14G Pumas come 3rd in the Home Counties Girls League play-offs after a thrilling penalty shoot-out
On Sunday 3rd May the U14G Pumas played in the Home Counties Girls play-offs at Woking, having previously beaten Reading B in the quarter finals. The semi-final was lost by a narrow 1-0 against Marlow; the game was very even and Richmond played some exceptional hockey after half time and the girls were unlucky not to score on several occasions. The always strong Surbiton B squad was the opponent in the 3rd/4th play-off. After a slow start, Richmond grew into the game and took the lead. Surbiton managed to score two goals but the Richmond girls showed real team spirit and fight to take the game to extra time. Richmond kept the pressure on during the 10 minutes extra time with some exhilarating attacking play, just unlucky not to score again. Taj focused the team and the girls showed great composure to pick their spot and finish the game with 5 perfect penalties, winning the penalty shoot-out 5-4. To come 3rd, with 42 U14 teams participating in the Home Counties Girls League, is a great achievement and a fantastic end to the season!
Taj commented ‘ I’m very proud ofthe effort from them today, everyone played their part and it was definitely a big team performance. So much potential in the squad to go on and push for more titles over the next few years.’
