After a magnificent RHClubFest superbly organised by Laura O’Brien with a merry band of helpers including Jonny Mills, Jamie Legg and Tom Groombridge we had a huge enthusiastic and reasonably well lubricated crowd down at the Hogg on Saturday evening to watch the oldest fixture in world hockey as our M1’s side played Teddington in the first league fixture of the new season.
The Richmond 1XI with a lot of new faces in from last season including Mark Pearn, James Arch, Tom Lambourne, Stewart Laing, John Harris and Nick Molcsan dominated the game despite some obvious first game nerves.
A breakaway goal with a fine reverse finish from Mark Pearn started proceedings before a boomer of a short corner drag flick calmed nerves for a 2-0 lead at half time courtesy of Charlie Ellison after more good work from Pearn to set up the corner.
After the break Richmond pushed their advantage home with another corner from Ellison and an open play from Jesse Gatt and a second for Pearn meant that 3 goals had been scored in 5 spell-binding minutes. Then followed a typically efficient strike on the turn from Teddington dangerman up front Andy Pett which stemmed the flow before Richmond finished on top with a tap in by Kiwi import Nick Molcsan after very unselfish work from Tom Groombridge with the final score a superb 6-1 win for the home side.
A marvelous start for the boys and the perfect end to RHClubFest was had by all in the Clubhouse afterwards which was absolutely ROCKING ! An absolute delight to see so many people down supporting the Club – really sets the tone for the season ahead which promises to be very exciting right across the Club.
Same again next week please as we host Southgate also at 6pm with our Ladies 1st XI also playing at home at 1.30. Come on down and support your Club.
