1874 Richmond Hockey Club founded, Chairman Edwin Ash On 7 November 1874, the first competitive hockey match was played against Teddington at Old Deer Park; 1-1
1875 Seven clubs, at Richmond’s suggestion, formed the first Hockey Association
1890 – 1900 The Old Deer Park was now a favoured venue for county and divisional matches and the university match.
1899 England v Ireland at Old Deer Park in front of 3,000 spectators
1901 In September 1901, Richmond HC was reformed for the last time
1919 Richmond HC and Kingston Hill HC merged to form Richmond and Kingston Hill HC
1933 Richmond now had five teams plus a touring XI, the Mohicans, who played at the first Worthing Festival
1946 The club name reverted to Richmond HC
1959 New Pavilion opened
1967 Pre-Olympic tournament in London; ODP was one of the venues used and the club was host to six national teams
1986 Richmond was one of the host clubs for the veterans tournament that preceded the World Cup held in London to mark the HA centenary
1988 Richmond entered the newly formed National League
1989 Richmond Ladies formed
1995 National League Division II 5th / HA Cup quarter-finalists
1999 125th Richmond HC anniversary ball. Occasion marked by re-enacted match at Old Deer Park against Teddington; the result was 3-1 to the visitors
2001 Richmond HC move to new ground and clubhouse at Quintin Hogg Memorial Ground, University of Westminster Sports Ground, Chiswick
2003 Richmond Junior Section formed
2005 Hounslow & Ealing disband. Mens section join Richmond HC
2006 Mens 1s win Surrey Cup Final 3-1 against Surbiton
2010 Men’s 1st XI win Surrey/Hants League as Champions
2010 Men’s 1st XI win Surrey Cup
2011 Men’s 1st XI win South Premier Division 2 as Champions
2012 Men’s 1st XI win South Premier Division 1 as Champions and return to the England Hockey National League for the first time since 1996.
Michael Pearce’s centenary history of RHC was written in 1974 and we hope to download that information to this site shortly as many current members will not have previously seen this information.
