This is a really exciting time in the development of our Juniors – we have grown from a group of 30 children when we set up in 2003 to over 420 members to date!
The Section is overseen by a group of really enthusiastic volunteers who are always keen to improve what is on offer for the children.
NEW TRAINING TIMES
New training times for U8-U11 Boys AND U14 Main League Girls
To better utilise the pitch space available on Sunday mornings, we have decided to move the U8-U11 Boys to the 2nd session (1030-1145) AND the U14 Main League Girls to the 3rd session (1145-1300).
Training times from September will be as follows
|Session 1 (0915-1030)||U8 Girls, U9 Girls, U10 Girls & U11 Girls|
|Session 2 (1030-1145)||U8-U11 Boys, U12 Boys, U12 Girls (Panthers), U14 Dev Boys & U14 Dev Girls (Lions & Leopards)|
|Session 3 (1145-1300)||U14 Main Girls (Pumas & Wildcats), U14 Main Boys, U16 Girls (Tigers & Lynxes), U16 Boys|
U14 girls will be advised by e-mail as to which session they should attend.
We are also ceasing to run regular dedicated U18 training sessions on Sundays. With the majority of our U18s training with the senior section midweek & playing senior matches on Saturdays, there was very patchy attendance on Sundays. Any U18s wishing to train on Sundays will be accommodated/absorbed into the relevant U16 session. We will still run U18 sides (boys & girls) & adhoc training sessions will be arranged prior to League or Cup matches.
As a reminder, term dates for the 2013/14 season are as follows: -
Autumn Term: 8th September 2013 – 15th December 2013
Spring Term: 5th January 2014 – 30th March 2014
Summer Term: 27st April 2014 – 6th July 2014
As per last season, we will NOT break up over Half Term - Training will continue for all those able to attend.
We run waiting lists for the younger age groups.
Subscriptions are unchanged for the 2013/14 season & are due by the 8th September 2013 (after which they increase by £20). Payment can be made online or by cheque. If paying online, please ensure you quote your child’s unique RHC reference number (details included on the Player Registration Form). It would also greatly assist your child’s squad leader if you could email them to confirm you have made payment & the date payment was made. You may find keeping a screen shot of your completed payment screen quite useful should clarification be requested.
Main Season = Autumn term & Spring term
Main Season Subs = £140 (u8-u14) OR £150 (u15-u18) – if paid by 8th September
Summer term is optional and additional subs are payable at the end of the Spring term.
Regardless of whether you choose to pay online or by cheque, it is imperative that you also complete the Player Registration Form which should accompany this newsletter. In addition to requiring your signature regarding consent for participation, medical treatment, photography & indemnity, we also need to ensure we have up-to-date contact details & date of birth. Once completed, the form can be scanned & emailed or handed to your child’s Squad Leader. We require 1 form per child.
Match fees are here to stay for u12 and older as we continue to need a way to share the cost of pitch hire across the players actually playing matches. Unfortunately they do seem to be the fairest way. They will be a maximum of £5/player and will be payable for both HOME and AWAY matches. We aim to recover 50% of the actual pitch hire costs. By charging for both HOME & AWAY matches, we are able to keep fees to a manageable level. It is left to the relevant Squad Leader’s discretion as to whether they collect on a match by match basis or on a termly basis. Please work with us & help your Squad Leader by paying promptly – no one likes having to chase for money.
Please note: – Match fees are NOT payable on Mini Festivals
HiPAC TRAINING – WATER PITCH – FRIDAY PM
HiPAC training is again offered on Friday evenings (1930-2100) by invitation only. Candidates are selected by the RHC coaching team & will be invited by the relevant Squad Leader (age groups U11 – U14 only).
Subs for the HiPAC sessions are £70/term with the option of paying for both terms (£140) in the September. If your child wishes to accept their place, and to confirm their inclusion on the HiPAC register please e-mail Helen at email@example.com once invitation received.
HiPAC is for those players who RHC coaches think would benefit from more intense coaching sessions. To realise the benefits of such coaching, regular attendance is expected.
HOCKEY+ TRAINING – SAND PITCH – FRIDAY PM
HOCKEY+ takes place on the Sand pitch at the same time as the HiPAC session (Fridays 1930-2100). This is open to any enthusiastic hockey players in the U11 to U14 age groups wishing to attend an additional training session – the emphasis is on reinforcing key skills. Unfortunately we can only accommodate 30 players at the session. Depending on interest, we may need to be creative to meet demand so please bear with us.
In the first instance we ask you to register your child’s interest by 1st September to Sally at firstname.lastname@example.org. Based on the interest expressed by the 1st, we will work out the best way forward. Please note if there is an excess demand, it may be decided to either offer a session to your child every other Friday or to split the term in half & offer a half term place . The subs will be £70/term (or pro-rata if only a partial term is offered).
HiPAC and HOCKEY+ TERM DATES
HiPAC and HOCKEY+ training takes place in the Autumn and Spring terms only and the dates for the 2013/14 season are as follows: -

Spring Term: 10th January 2014 – 28th March 2014

We love volunteers. Whether it be getting involved with coaching, umpiring, squad administration, social events (something we have been lacking in recent years!) or anything else you can think of, we’d love to hear from you.
Umpires are always in demand so definitely put your hand up if this interests you. Umpiring courses are available and will be paid for by RHC.
If you are interested in getting involved in this manner, please speak to your child’s Squad Leader. A volunteer information session is in the works for mid to late September. Once the date is finalised, we will let you know. Please join us if you are at all curious.
What you will get at Richmond is first class coaching from a team of coaches and skilled parent volunteers in a fun and stimulating environment. The coaching material is delivered from our RHC LTAD Plan prepared by our Director of Junior Hockey which is in line with England Hockey’s single system syllabus. Delivery of this syllabus is led by a team of qualified coaches assisted ably by our parent volunteers, of which nearly all have Level One Qualifications. Coaching sessions are structured to teach technical skill and tactical awareness and we finish each session with a conditioned game which relates back to the principles of the delivered session. We cater for children aged 7 yrs to 18, both boys and girls.
Each age group accommodates children of all abilities and we coach boys and girls separately throughout the Junior Club. We stream the age groups based on ability. This helps us to concentrate on each sub group’s needs and means that children are training with others of an equivalent ability.
Our U12s upwards compete in various leagues across the home counties. We very much encourage our better Senior Juniors (who may have filtered up into the Senior Club) to put something back into the Club by coming and helping at Junior training on a regular basis.
Training takes place on Sunday mornings at our home ground.
Our members are split into three age group sessions as follows.
Our age group system is based upon the age of your child on 1 September of the current season
