O’50′s NATIONAL CHAMPIONS

Well they didn’t let us down – Our Vintage side skippered by Greg Hutchings were victorious on Sunday morning at Cannock HC – Match report taken from the England Hockey Website is below.

A brilliant effort by Greg and the chaps with Mr Mark Precious scoring the only goal.

Men’s Masters Over 50s Cup Final

Harleston Magpies (0) 0 - 1 (0) Richmond
            Precious 34, PC

The day began with the Men’s Masters Over 50s Cup final in which Richmond were competing in their fifth final in six years. Harleston Magpies reached the final for the first time being that this was their inaugural entry into the competition. The game saw plenty of endeavour from both sides with several glimmers of chances passing both sides by. It took Mark Precious to convert a penalty corner shortly before half-time to break the deadlock between the two sides.

The second half continued in a similar vein with Harleston Magpies solid team unit probing Richmond for openings, whilst Richmond produced moments of fluid play to breakdown Harleston Magpies. It was a keenly contested second half in which either side could have added to the scoreline, but in the end it was Precious’ goal that separated the two as Richmond were again crowned Master’s Over 50s Cup champions.

Our Vintage Side has cemented itself as one of the very best o50′s sides in the country in recent years and this having appeared in numerous finals in recent years they will look to repeat the success of 2008/9 when they first won the title.

A 5th final in 6 seasons for the Vintage and they have now won it on two occasions – a fantastic effort.
